ABOUT US
Who We Are
Maryland Essentials for Childhood (EFC) is a statewide collective impact initiative to prevent adverse childhood experiences.
We encourage a multi-generational approach that promotes safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments that help children grow up to be healthy and productive citizens.
In turn, those citizens can build stronger and safer families and communities for their children.
Our Vision
All Maryland children, youth and their families thrive in safe, stable and nurturing relationships and environments.
Our Mission
To develop a common agenda across multiple agencies and stakeholders to align activities, programs, policies and funding so that all Maryland children, youth and their families have safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments.
Our Goals
EFC employs the principles of collective impact and the ever-evolving research in brain science, epigenetics and resilience to advance our goals.
We achieve this by:
Educating everyone on brain science,
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and resilience; in order to put science into action to reduce ACEs and create safe, stable and nurturing relationships and environments for all Maryland children.
Collecting, evaluating and using data
to inform actions and make recommendations for system improvement.
Working collectively
to embed Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACEs) science across systems, services and programs.
Working with state and local governments
to integrate PACEs science into policy and funding recommendations.
